Youth Icon 09 - Start Voting


Time has come to choose our Youth Icon and a platform is being created for it .This year we are going to have Videocon India Youth Icon Awards 2009 to recognise the youth who has made difference in our lives, influenced us in one way or another.The youth to whom we look up to for inspiration.Everyone has qualities and their own accomplishments that force us to look up to them as our role models, our ICON, in better words INDIA YOUTH ICON . And the one for whom every Indian is proud of , who won Gold medal at olympics 2008 after 28 years of gap and brought glory to our nation is none other than Abhinav Bindra.

Abhinav Bindra is the brightest star among a new breed of talented Indian shooters.Bindra won six gold medals at various international meets in the European Circuit in 2001, which proved to be a purple patch for him. He was conferred the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award for the year 2001. In the 2002 Manchester Commonwealth Games, competing in the Air rifle event, Abhinav Bindra bagged Gold medal in the Pairs event and won the Silver medal in the individual event. Despite breaking the Olympic record, Abhinav Bindra failed to secure a medal for India, in the 2004 Athens Olympics. However, on 24 July 2006, he became the first Indian shooter to win a World Championship gold in Zagreb, which was second to Dr. Karni Singh's, who won a silver medal in 1962 in a World Championship meet. At the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games, he bagged the Gold in the Pairs event, while managed to acquire the third position (bronze) in the Singles event.And finaly Gold medal at olympics 2008.

With Videocon India Youth Icon Awards 2009, we can choose.Abhinav Bindra is one who told us that their is nothing that can’t be accomplished if you remain stick to your goal and do constant hardwork. Now the time has come that we should vote for our Youth Icon and i feel its him only.

Early Life and Education


Abhinav Bindra was born on September 28, 1982 at Dehra Dun, India. Belongs to Punjabi Khatri family. His father Dr. Apjit and mother Babli Bindra are promoters of the Hitech Group of companies. He studied at the Doon School, Dehradun up to the 8th standard and then left for St. Stephens School, Chandigarh to pursue shooting. He earned his BBA from the University of Colorado.

He took his shooting training in Germany. He practised for 12 to14 hours a day at the shooting range that he owns at his farmhouse near Chandigarh.

Abhinav's first coach Lt. Col. J.S. Dhillon has marked first his talent. At the 2000 Olympic Games, Abhinav Bindra was the youngest Indian participant. He scored 590 and ranked 11th in the qualification round but did not qualify for the finals since only the top 8 compete in the finals.

Abhinav Bindra holds an M.B.A (Masters in Business Administration) from the University of Colorado, US. He is the CEO of Abhinav Futuristics.
